  • Dolphin Checkmark Reading Pals Pre-K Program: Early literacy initiatives that build a strong foundation before kindergarten even begins.
  • Dolphin Checkmark Convenient Family Care: On-site before and after-school care through the YMCA, plus a close partnership with the Learning Center right across the street for free extended afternoon activities and tutoring.
  • Dolphin Checkmark F. I. N. Buddy System: Connectedness and belonging are essential parts of our Dolphin family culture. Our Filling Individual Needs (F.I. N.) Buddy System ensures students have multiple adults connected to them to check-in/out with them so they know they are loved and supported.

Signature Clubs & Initiatives

  • Dolphin Checkmark Runner’s Club: Weekly morning training sessions that prepare our Dolphins for local events like the School House Hustle, Kid’s Marathon, and the Kid’s Triathlon.
  • Dolphin Checkmark Dolphin Delivery: A charming school-wide initiative where students practice the art of letter writing, sending old-fashioned mail to peers and staff with weekly classroom deliveries.
  • Dolphin Checkmark Creative Arts & Activities: Vibrant programs including Art Club, Chorus, Music, Art, and Physical Education.

Our active Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and School Advisory Council (SAC) ensure our families have a strong voice in our school's journey. Also, our SAC student representatives are a voice for all students as the most important members of our school community.

Welcome to Homosassa Elementary School, proud home of the Dolphins! Nestled in a quaint, historic fishing community in southwest Citrus County, our school serves as the true heartbeat of the neighborhood. We pride ourselves on a small, family-friendly campus built upon a culture of deep collaboration and mutual support. Located just blocks away from the beautiful Homosassa River, our students are uniquely fortunate to learn and grow while fully immersed in Florida’s natural environment, local wildlife, and small-town charm. Here, every child is known by name, valued, and lifted up by a community that cares.

Science Scores Soar!

 

Innovation starts here! In 2009, Homosassa Elementary founded a 5th Grade Fishing Field Trip right here in our local waters. What started as our own unique school tradition has successfully evolved into a district-wide initiative now supported by our Citrus County Education Foundation, called “Book, Line, and Thinkers.”
 

Thanks to our commitment to rigorous, hands-on learning, Homosassa Elementary proudly features the highest 5th Grade Science performance scores in the district. Our students consistently achieving top-tier proficiency by engaging in authentic learning has become a real science for our Dolphins!
